Windward Farm and Windward Blooms: Where People Make the Difference
At Windward Farm and Windward Blooms, the focus is clear: people come first. Whether crafting full-service custom flower arrangements for weddings and special events, raising heritage-breed pork and local beef, or hosting goat yoga sessions, owners Misha Van Mecl and Reed Mayer pour their hearts into creating experiences their customers will never forget.
“Merging agriculture with customer service and being really customer-centric and engaging with the community drives us. It’s very invigorating,” Misha shared. That passion shines through in every aspect of the farm’s operations.
While animal agriculture remains a vital part of the farm and its on-site shop, Windward’s floriculture business is the heart of its enterprise. When not at their full-time jobs, Misha and Reed dedicate countless hours to cultivating vibrant flower beds, carefully selecting varieties that thrive in Jefferson County’s climate. These blooms are transformed into breathtaking floral arrangements for weddings, funerals, and everyday moments of love and care. Even during the off-season, Windward ensures a steady supply of fresh flowers by working with a local wholesale supplier, keeping their commitment to supporting the community. The farm’s offerings don’t stop at flowers. Windward’s farm shop is a treasure trove of local delights, available both on-site and online at windward.farm. Customers can find seasonal pork products, goat’s milk soaps and lotions, handcrafted botanicals, Nubian goats, and even hay for sale.
For those looking for a unique venue or experience, Windward Farm has it covered. The property offers event spaces for intimate weddings, and a unique option to stay overnight in a cozy canvas tent. The furnished tent, equipped with a wood stove and campfire cooking setup, provide a peaceful retreat tucked away from the bustle of the farm on a private dirt path. Meanwhile, goat yoga sessions have become a farm favorite, where their playful and personable goats often “assist” participants, adding a dose of joy to the experience.
Windward Farm also hosts special events that celebrate tradition and community. This fall, Misha and Reed welcomed guests to their annual Hunt Brunch, an event steeped in local history. Ticketed guests enjoyed a hearty meal in their historic home before horses and riders set off on a fox chase across the picturesque property. This cherished tradition passed down from the farm’s previous owners is one Misha and Reed are proud to continue.
In addition to her farm commitments, Misha generously gives her time and expertise to the broader agricultural community. Recently, she coached the Washington FFA Floriculture team as they prepared for a statewide competition in December, furthering her mission to inspire the next generation of agriculturists.
